SteelSafe
Steel Safe Hydraulic Connector
Steel Safe is intended to be a direct replacement for rubber hose within commercial vehicle applications.
The Steel Safe Hydraulic Connector was developed with a primary focus to eliminate all hoses out of engine bays; whatever they are. If on gas or diesel vehicles, when the primary seal leaks, the bus is remove from service.
The Steel Safe Hydraulic Connector provides flexing fluid joints with up to 60 degree of movement with 2 ball assemblies. Further degree of movement can be obtained by adding further Steel Safe Hydraulic Connectors.
Features:
- All high tensile steel manufacture to totally eliminate risk of burst or rupture.
- Flexing ball ends to allow alignment and rotation with component movement and sliding cylinder principles to
accommodate cylinder stroke. - Dual fluid seals on every moving component:
- Primary seal for system operation. Secondary back up seal as dual protection
On engine bay fluid lines a bimetallic seal prevents fluid leakage even if organic seals fail in an engine bay fire.
Thermal Expansion Seal provides Full Isolation of internal system fluid in the case of high external temperatures and is completely independent of operational seals.
Primary Operating Seal is the functional operations seal to match fluid specification.
Secondary Operational Seal provides sealing capability in the event that the Primary Operating Seal leaks or suffers from pressure spikes.
Public transportation safety benefit
- Solution to public & asset safety as part of fire prevention system.
- Prevention of fuel or accelerants being exposed to Ignition source.
- Immediate on‐board alarm system to alert driver to fuel or accelerant leakage.
- Thermal monitor and detection that alerts fire department of emergency and provides GPS location for accurate response.
Safeguarding of mining machinery
Prevention of fuel or accelerants being exposed to Ignition source.
Full programed maintenance capability for preventative programs.
High vibration and mechanical service reliability.
Eliminates maintenance cost and dangerous hose failures.
Hazardous waste.
Elimination of Production Stoppages from Seal Wear and Failure
Using Intrinsically safe electronic control to warn whenever the system itself has failed; simple leakage metering systems will warn both the driver, defense command plus head office service is required; but not stop production unless a high leakage trigger is engaged.
Cover Abrasion
70% of failures are a direct result of abrasion or external damage. Abrasion occurs when part of the hose cover has been worn or removed, exposing the hose reinforcement.
Cover Crack
Typically caused by exposure to excessive heat and/or ozone.
Hose Bent
Overbending can cause hose damage, when incorrectly fitted or incorrect training.
Coupling Blow-off
Exceeding the rated pressure of hose causes the hose bursting or fitting blow-off. Over or under crimping, incorrect hose/fitting combination, incorrect crimping dies,
Hose Twist
Evident by a spiraling hose label and bends in two planes. The hose twisting misaligns the reinforcement, and reduces the hose’s ability to withstand pressure.
Cover Blisters
Caused by incompatible fluids that have permeated the hose tube and collected under the cover. Compressed gases can also permeate or diffuse through the tube and become trapped under the cover.
Hose/Coupling Interface Weep
This may be caused by insufficient hose insertion during assembly and/or under-crimping, excessive vibration, flexing.
Heat aged/Dry or Aged air
High heat causes chain rupture, which results in a weaker, more-pliable plastic or even a resinous mass. When exposed to elevated temperatures, some plastics will even show an initial hardening followed by softening. All aging phenomena are irreversible processes.
